new life, day one

if you are reading this, you already know that i have been traveling and doing lots of different things these past few months. my life has flipped from hard-working student, to traveler visiting friends, to homeless at johns house. well a new chapter of my life has just started today, i am out here in japan, about to go through a few days of orientation on how to be a good assistant language teacher for the board of education at tsushima. its exciting to meet people from around the world embarking on the same journey as i am, learning about their stories and hearing their experiences through the whole schooling and JET program process.
i spent my last week on oahu at one of my best friends house, johnny the dumb haircut hook's house. we went surfing for the first few days, then we just hung out for a few days. my friend geoff came out from the big island to hang out with me, chad came out quite a bit, david oneal from texas even came out with his friend and his wife. alden made 5 appearences in 8 days, which is almost unheard of. we drank lots of wine and vodka.. it was an all around good time. john and sammy are so kind to have let me keep all my shit in their house for over 2 months. im sure it took up precious space in their computer/music/doll room.
i got on the plane at 9am in honolulu, august first. i landed in japan 8 hours later at noon on aug second. i lost a day, but i skipped a night, that was pretty neat. ive done it many times, but its still amazing to me. we just chased the sun. i realized when i got here that i was supposed to BRING my suit, and not mail it.. so the first thing that i did when i got here was go out and buy shoes, sox, and my roommate was nice enough to let me borrow his suit jacket for the conference. all i need now is a tie. i feel like a dumb ass not bringing formal clothes.. oh well.. i guess that's how i roll.
wish i had batteries in my camera so that i can show you pictures from my room.. its in downtown shinjyuku. its pretty fucking nuts here.
im alone at the moment.. just took a shower.. getting tired, but this is one of the only free moments i will have in tokyo until the conference is over in a few days.. so i'm going to go out and perhaps meet up with other jets around the neighborhood.
hope all is well wherever you are.
miss you dearly,
shane

  2. Good luck buddy. Yeah man that Gundam statue in Odaiba is off the chain. I wish I could go to Japan when John and fam are going but we're going to Disneyland in California with Tanya's sis. Japan is the best so i'm sure we'll be there soon. Have fun in the rising sun. Peace out.
