berlin=nice

so i guess ill start off by telling you about my night in hamburg. i was staying in this really nice hostel.. two bedrooms, six beds. i had my own room, and two english fellows were bunking in the main room. the guys names were ben and john. they were young boys, 18 and 19. they wanted to party so i said "fuck it" and i joined them. they were pretty shy and didnt have any balls to walk up to girls and start conversations so i had to do that all night. but it paid off. i ran across a couple of cute german girls sitting in a quiet bar in st. pauli (the red light district). turns out they were high school girls out to party. the drinking age is 18, and they have 13 years of schooling here.. so everyone in highschool can pretty much drink. anyway i approached them and they were really nice. the two guys were happy for the rest of the night.. we bar hopped for a bunch of hours.
beer in germany is half the price of beer in holland. and it tastes better. anyway i woke up early and checked out. went to hamburg train station and there was all kinds of action. huge protest against irans president. gigantic protest about the past election. i actually joined in. got a cool sign that says "wheres my vote?" got a bunch of pics that i will share when i get to a good computer.. that day must be coming up soon i hope. wish i could show you guys right now.
so from hamburg i took a train to berlin. it was only an hour and a half train ride. i fell asleep the whole time. i had my own personal compartment. first class! i guess i get what i pay for. yeah so i get into town and check in with no problems. i went for a walk and just ran into all kinds of cool historical shit. this town is alive man. bars and cafes and museums all over the place. saw a building with bulletholes and all kinds of damage from WWII... no signs or anything.. its really interesting. you know what else is weird...? you know how when a drunk person comes up to you on the streets in america, people tend to shy away and scuttle off? out here in germany, most people start conversations. its awesome. a completely slobbering drunk will go up to just about anyone and say some stupid shit, and the person on the receiving end of that stupid comment will start talking to them. awesome.
oh yeah, and the gutter punk population out here in gigantic. lots of squat houses and dirty mohawks out here. real dirty gutter punks. its great.
i didnt drink tonight. glad to have a day of rest. hopefully ill have another rest day tomorrow.
ill be here in berlin for the next full week. maybe ill take a day trip somewhere else.
love from berlin,
shane
