more news, still no photos

alrighty amigos.

im back at work again. all dressed up for nothing.. i dont have to be here.. i just felt like putting up more words on my blog. ive been hanging out with a bunch of new people.. obviously. yeah but i went to a bbq a few days ago.. hung out with a bunch of people my age. they were in town visiting family for Obon.. its a holiday where everyone goes home. yeah so i went out and made some friends... joined a basketball team.. i might join a soccer team.. dont know how active i want to make myself.. i just want to get back into shape.. at the moment, its jellyfish season.. for the next couple of weeks, i will be stearing clear of the ocean... i was walking around the beach yesterday, and i saw a big squid.. that was cool.. i might try to go squid fishing.. or maybe even just regular fishing..
the closest person (teacher) who lives by me is this south african guy named duncan. been hanging around with that guy. trying to show him some japanese culture.. this guy knows NO japanese at all.. you guys reading this probably know more than him.. no joke.. anyway weve been running and trying to find shit to do. went to sing karaoke with him and some other teachers. its funny talking to him because he makes fun of americans.. but every other teacher on this island is american, excpet for this irish guy who no one talks to.
other than that ive been just kicking back. found a place pretty close to my house where i can jump into the ocean from about 20 feet. it keeps me entertained.. and the snorkleing is pretty nice.. its not deep or anything, but its clear enough to see fish and starfish and all that other stuff that you see in the ocean.
i got my alien registration card today, and got a bank account, and a gas card so that it comes directly of out my paycheck. just getting settled.. still no internet in my house... cant wait for that to be up so that i can keep in touch a little better.
i guess thats all for now.. im rocking the aloha shirts on a daily basis. OH YEAH. its so funny.. there is a hula group out here.. fucking hilarous. seems like everywhere i look, and even on TV, there is some shit about hawaii.. im telling you, hawaii is SUPER popular..
john, i might ask you to buy a bunch of cheeseball aloha shirts before you come out here so that i can give them as presents... all mediums or smalls. im going to have an aloha friday and get all of the office people to partake. with the popularity of hawaii at the moment, im pretty sure it will fly.
oh yeah, i get paid pretty soon.. cant wait for that.. im super broke now. paid for my insurance yesterday. ALSO john, if i send you a bucket of cash, could you bring out some boards?.. you are going to bring boards when you come here right?.. well if i send you some money, i might ask you to buy a board for me and bring it with you when you come out... we`ll see.
i:ll be in touch with you later about that.
this paycheck im getting paid in cash! how cool is that! hhahaha. BAM! cash money
haha.. anyway, im going home. its noon.. its almost naptime.

update

for those of you follwing my life, i have arrived, and i am alive. i have been out of touch with my blog for a couple reasons, i dont have interent, and the one i have access to is very slow...
im actually in the office at the moment on my day off.. this computer is so slow that i wont even try to upload any photos.. when i sort out my own internet you:ll be able to check out my house and everything else that ive been playing around with.
yeah so i got here to tsushima about a week ago... got my shit set up.. unpaked my clothes and whatnot.. there was a lot of crap left over from the years of other teachers shit.. which is a good thing because i didnt have pots, pans, soap ect.. had all that stuff already stocked.. even spices.!
so things are good.. i got myself a pimpin new japanese cellphone.. it takes 5megapixel photos, i can watch tv on it, and its just all around bad ass... got a car yesterday. im renting it for a year. or leasing it? i dont know how it works, all i know is that its cheap.. its a honda.. honda LIFE. fun little car with take me places i hope.
i went surfing yesterday with my bosses son who is my age. he lives in fukuoka but hes here on the island visiting.
turns out that no one on this island really surfs. there are a couple guys who surf, but they are not from this island.. i dont understand why because there are a lot of cool looking breaks! i went surfing yesterday and it was pretty hairy. i saw video of the day before and it looked awesome. barrels and all. i surfed this left yesterday that was about 4-5 feet. (hawaiian style) i went out for about 3 hours and got a good sunburn. then after that we just went around and looked for new waves that no one has ever surfed. its crazy. i would call this a surfing paradise. you can just stumble upon some shit that no one has ever thought about surfing.
i cant wait till some friends come out to visit.!
to anyone reading this, the invitation is open to you. lots of bedding and floor space in my house/apt.
anyway, i just wanted to let you all know that im doing great.. work starts on the first officially.. well actually ive been working since the second, but everyday has just been a free day since its summer vacation right now. good to get paid for nothing. im getting paid to fuck around on the internet today. got paid to surf yesterday. fucking crazy. im going to nagasaki on the 27th of this month.. going to stay there till the 30th.. gonna visit the mom and hang out with some new teacher friends.
i:ll keep you all posted on my adventures.
love from nippon

new life, day one

if you are reading this, you already know that i have been traveling and doing lots of different things these past few months. my life has flipped from hard-working student, to traveler visiting friends, to homeless at johns house. well a new chapter of my life has just started today, i am out here in japan, about to go through a few days of orientation on how to be a good assistant language teacher for the board of education at tsushima. its exciting to meet people from around the world embarking on the same journey as i am, learning about their stories and hearing their experiences through the whole schooling and JET program process.
i spent my last week on oahu at one of my best friends house, johnny the dumb haircut hook's house. we went surfing for the first few days, then we just hung out for a few days. my friend geoff came out from the big island to hang out with me, chad came out quite a bit, david oneal from texas even came out with his friend and his wife. alden made 5 appearences in 8 days, which is almost unheard of. we drank lots of wine and vodka.. it was an all around good time. john and sammy are so kind to have let me keep all my shit in their house for over 2 months. im sure it took up precious space in their computer/music/doll room.
i got on the plane at 9am in honolulu, august first. i landed in japan 8 hours later at noon on aug second. i lost a day, but i skipped a night, that was pretty neat. ive done it many times, but its still amazing to me. we just chased the sun. i realized when i got here that i was supposed to BRING my suit, and not mail it.. so the first thing that i did when i got here was go out and buy shoes, sox, and my roommate was nice enough to let me borrow his suit jacket for the conference. all i need now is a tie. i feel like a dumb ass not bringing formal clothes.. oh well.. i guess that's how i roll.
wish i had batteries in my camera so that i can show you pictures from my room.. its in downtown shinjyuku. its pretty fucking nuts here.
im alone at the moment.. just took a shower.. getting tired, but this is one of the only free moments i will have in tokyo until the conference is over in a few days.. so i'm going to go out and perhaps meet up with other jets around the neighborhood.
hope all is well wherever you are.
miss you dearly,
shane
